James Dyson bought a five-bedroom penthouse in Singapore’s tallest tower, after his company decided to move its headquarters from England to the island nation.
A document on property ownership shows that billionaire British James Dyson and his wife Deirdre are penthouse tenants for 99 years. Although this document is not priced, local media reported that Dyson spent S $ 73.8 million (US $ 54 million).
The penthouse is located on the top three floors of Singapore’s tallest tower. Tanjong Pagar Center (64 floors, 290 meters high) is located in the Wallich Residence complex. The apartment has an area of 1,960 m2, has 5 bedrooms, a wine cellar with 600 bottles, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a garden and a scenic area on the 62nd floor with a panoramic view of Singapore. The penthouse was once sold for S $ 100 million (US $ 73.6 million).
Dyson, 72, is one of Britain’s most famous entrepreneurs with an estimated $ 5.4 billion in assets. He founded an electric appliance business with his name on products such as vacuum cleaners, hand dryers and fans. The company announced this year that it will move its headquarters from the UK to Singapore to be closer to the Asian market.
“With the decision to be based in Singapore and to focus on the development of businesses in the region, of course James Dyson has to buy real estate there,” Dyson company spokesman said.
S $ 73.8 million is the highest price ever paid for an apartment in Singapore, surpassing the $ 60 million that Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin spent to own a penthouse in 2017.
